CHARITY & PHILANTHROPY
Y.CO, the challenger brand of the superyacht industry, and The Lewis Moody Foundation have joined forces on a series of extreme fundraising challenges around the world.
Following their headnorth Polar Expedition which raised over €250,000 in 2015, the team are taking on headeast this December. Y.CO Co-Founders Gary Wright and Charlie Birkett and Director Yacht Management Yves Damette will be joined by Rugby World Cup Winner Lewis Moody MBE, other rugby stars and explorer Alan Chambers MBE on this demanding cycling challenge. The team aims to raise over £75,000 for The Lewis Moody Foundation.
headeast will see the Team take on a gruelling 1,000km cycle challenge over 10 days from Saigon, Vietnam, to Angkor Watt, Cambodia, cycling up to 130km per day. The route takes in steep mountain climbs up to 1,500 metres above sea level, dense jungles and remote temples, in humid conditions and temperatures of 30-35oC. A limited number of corporate spaces are available to join the team: if you think you are up to the challenge please contact info@
The team will take on further epic challenges headsouth 2017 and headwest 2018. As part of their ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, Y.CO is also launching the HEADS UP initiative to encourage Y.CO team members to take on extreme challenges for charity, individually or in groups.
All funds raised through the challenges will go to The Lewis Moody Foundation. The Foundation helps fund the HeadSmart campaign (headsmart.org.uk) to raise awareness of the symptoms of brain tumours, ensuring children are diagnosed quickly and receive lifesaving treatment before it’s too late.
Charlie Birkett, Co-Founder and CEO of Y.CO, said: “Y.CO takes Corporate Social Responsibility seriously. We have raised over €1.5 million for charity since we launched in 2004. We were overwhelmed by the support we received for headnorth, and by taking on more extreme challenges, we want to inspire the Y.CO team, the yachting industry and the wider luxury industry to embrace challenges and support those in need.”
Lewis Moody MBE, said: “I am thrilled that Y.CO has decided to undertake these immense challenges to raise funds for The Foundation. I am inspired every day by young children and families who are dealing with critical illness and who face an uncertain and heartbreaking future. It is these children who will be driving me forward to complete this extreme personal challenge and most importantly to raise over £75,000 to make a difference to the future of others.”
