If you are looking for a lovely pink sparkling wine for summer, consider the award-winning 2017 Rosé from the Langham Wine Estate in Dorset.
Langham’s 2017 Rosé is the only pink English sparkling wine to be awarded a Gold Medal in the 2021 International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC). The English Rosé was one of three pink sparkling wines from around the world to be awarded a Gold Medal in the prestigious wine competition and the only one from the UK.
Scored 95 Points
With a score of 95 points and a Gold Medal, this makes the Langham’s 2017 Rosé the UK’s best pink from the world’s Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year.
Owner of The Langham Wine Estate, Justin Langham, says: “We had high hopes for our Rosé 2017. We believed our low intervention wine making techniques that we have been developing really came to the fore in this wine giving it a greater depth and longer finish, so we are very happy that the judges appreciated this too. We have of course been using these techniques in all our wines, so although they didn’t all win gold medals, everyone did get a medal. Rosé is of course more of a summer drink, so the timing of this couldn’t be better, just as the weather is warming up and the days are getting longer.”
Described in the judges tasting notes as a classy wine with great personality, they describe it as: “Generous and complex in all departments. The nose leads with strawberry mille-feuille. There is a richness to the cherry, strawberry and shortbread palate that is incredibly well balanced by the firm red fruit acidity.”
The Langham team also received two Silver medals in the competition for their 2017 Blanc de Blancs and 2018 Pinot Meunier and Bronze gongs for the duo of NV classic cuvees – Culver and Corallian.
Langham was named Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year by the IWSC in November 2020, seeing off competition from more than 700 entrants including Champagne houses and Prosecco brands.
Langham Wine Estate hosts regular events, tours and tastings. Visitors can buy wine from the cellar door shop and relax with a drink or a meal at the vineyard café.
