The art of travel has definitely become one to master and the journey itself should be just as enjoyable as the destination.

Whether you’re on the road, on tracks or in the air, there are tips and technology that can make the journey very enjoyable and even downright luxurious!

Don’t Let Luggage Weigh You Down

French writer and aviator Antoine de Saint Exupery said “He who would travel happily must travel light” and he is absolutely right! Packing light reduces the pressure and strain of travel. Just bringing along the essentials and packing them well will make all the difference in the world. Over-sized purses perfectly packed with practical essentials can be stowed under your seat.  If you really want to treat yourself to an extra luxury, courier your luggage ahead to your destination! Most airlines are now charging for all checked baggage, so whether you add this expense to your travel budget or doing so just makes it a more cost effective depending on your destination, this is a luxe option that will make you feel weightless. Being baggage free will give you more time to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

Traveling Clothes

The colour black has been a popular clothing choice for centuries. Women in the Victorian age used to wear dark clothing when traveling to hide any signs of dirt. Today it is just as practical. Choose items that are loose fitting, wrinkle free and that can be worn in layers. Carrying a Pashmina is chic and practical. Be sure to wear sensible footwear like a sturdy, well made shoe perhaps a Ballet flat. They provide optimal comfort while still looking very chic. Take the Spa with You

Aromatherapy and essential oils can enhance the travel experience. Using lemon grass, peppermint, and eucalyptus oils can stimulate and boost immune and energy if your mode of travel is driving. The soothing and relaxing qualities of lavender make this an ideal choice for train or air travel because they put you in a relaxed state. Put some on your pillow during your trip for an added luxurious and sleep inducing benefit. Add more on getting better sleep while you travel, see our article on Eye Masks: A Travelers Best Friend.

If traveling by air, drinking lots of water is essential. Whenever possible, why not add a fresh lemon wedge. Limiting coffee and alcohol you drink will help keep you hydrated. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables like cucumbers and you’ll arrive feeling good and more refreshed. If you are traveling by car, pack a picnic basket full of special fancy foods you wouldn’t normally eat to make your trip seem extra special and exotic.

Optimizing your smart phone

Nowadays we don’t think twice about leaving home without our phone. Going on a Bon Voyage will make your phone all that more precious with the vast array of travel apps now available. They can help you track your flight, manage your itinerary, give you directions to the cheapest gas along with the best restaurants and even allow you to check into your flight.

Wherever your travels may take you be smart and plan ahead while not over planning, the right amount of spontaneity can be exhilarating.
