Hello, my name is Timothy Corrigan. I am an award-winning interior designer with offices in Los Angeles and Paris. My firm has completed luxury residential projects around the world, and our work has been featured in over 1000 publications, including one of my personal favorites: EAT LOVE SAVOR®!
The path that sparked your passion for creation and that brought your luxury business to life: In the early 90’s, I was living in Paris and working in the advertising business. Living in Paris opened up my eyes to the importance that architecture and design plays in our everyday existence. I started noticing details on buildings or in rooms that I had never noticed before. Then I bought a 17th century manor house in Normandy and began the process of renovating it. I loved the whole experience so much that I re-did my Paris apartment. Soon my homes were published in design magazines and people started to ask me if I would help them do their projects. I did this while continuing to work in advertising, but started to realize that I enjoyed my secondary job more than my main “day” job! Once I made the decision to make the change, everything seemed to fall in place, and within a few years I found myself on the Architectural Digest’s AD100 list of the world’s top architects and interior designers.
How do you keep your creative forces and passions alive? It is all too easy to go through our life in auto-pilot mode and we stop learning and growing. For that reason, I like to put myself in situations in which I feel a little bit unfamiliar and unsure in order to grow, be inspired and learn new things. On the flip side, though, inspiration can come from the most mundane activity. I can be walking down the same street in Paris that I’ve walked countless times before, and suddenly notice something new or different. I’ve learned that by being present and keeping my eyes open, inspiration can be found everywhere!
What are the causes you support that you are passionate about? I am passionate about the important work done by the French Heritage Society. The organization gives grants to restore French architectural gems in both France and the USA, to teach students, young professionals and the general public about these historic treasures through its cultural educational programs and to provide cultural internships in both countries. I have been on the board for six years, and am incredibly humbled to be the only American honored by them for my work restoring several national landmarks in France. I am also a supporter of the Institute of Classica Architecture & Art, whose mission is dedicated to advancing the contemporary practice and appreciation of the classical tradition in regional architecture, urbanism and the allied arts. I have also served on the Board of Trustees of California Institute for the Arts (CalArts) for nine years. I think that it is so incredibly important to give back to the world in whatever way that we can.
What other passions in your life drive you? I’m a self-confessed chateau-holic. I have renovated and restored four different chateaux for myself. l love taking these sleeping beauties, built for another time and another way of life, and figuring out how to that appropriately update them for life in the 21st century. I recently purchased a “new” chateau in the Loire Valley, near Normandy, that was built in the 17th,18th & 19th centuries and I am now in the process of restoring and renovating both the buildings and the gardens.
If you have a message to pass on, what would it be? I feel incredibly lucky to have had a successful career doing something that I love. I encourage everyone to take risks and follow their passion, for that is when the universe will support you. It is never too late to take the leap of faith and go for what you love!
Thank you to Timothy Corrigan for allowing us this intimate look at the man, his work and passions.
