One of the setting options takes its inspiration from the local boats known as “thung”, which are set up as anchors on the secluded stretch of Vietnamese coastline. The beach ranks as one of the finest in the country, and fishermen still work the waters just offshore, many aboard the same type of traditional boat. The ‘thung’ is a small, bowl-shaped basket boat of bamboo with a ubiquitous presence along Vietnam’s coastline, as many local fishermen rely on them to survive. They date back to Vietnam’s French colonial era, when the Vietnamese built them to bypass laws forcing fishermen to pay taxes for owning boats, arguing they were “just a giant basket”.
Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine
