History of Fortnum & Mason
When Mason met Fortnum in the 1700’s while Mason had a small shop in St. James Market in London England, the Fortnum family from Oxford, a high-class builder helping to establish the St. James and Mayfair areas into the most fashionable in London. Their foundation was built providing candles for the Queen while Fortnum was employed as a footman with the Royal family.

Originally started as a grocery store, Fortnum & Mason in a department store filled with high quality goods and is an iconic British symbol, a holder of many Royal Warrants over a 150-year period.
